Monkey river was once a thriving town in Southern Belize, being the heart of the banana trade, but as time went by focus changed and the residents relocated, but the wildlife remained

Our day starts with a boat ride, speeding through the mangrove tunnels which eventually takes you to Monkey River Village, at the mouth of Monkey River here we pick up a local guide native to the area, these guys know their river and it's resident critters. We cruise up the river banks spotting, iguanas, turtles, various birds, the occasional crocodile, and other interesting creatures, the highlight of the adventure is the Howler Monkey which can be seen from, the river banks, At the furthest point on the river (that we will access)  we will take a short hike on a trail made by your guide, this trail takes your through a small part of the jungle and has some interesting animals, herbs plants and trees and often times a closer look at the Howler Monkeys. Those that don't want to hike can opt to wait in the boat. After the hike, if the water is nice, clear and calm and you choose to you can take a dip before cruising back down river. We drop off the local guide then  head back through the mangrove tunnels then make a stop, to do some manatee spotting  in an area that they are known to feed, before heading back to the ferry pier
